30 Day Shadow Program Review As I try to put my thoughts and feelings about the ZEN4K9S Shadow Program onto paper, it’s quite difficult to know where to start. I could talk for hours about what I learned from Linn, but I’ll try to keep it short! I signed up for the course expecting to learn a huge amount about dog psychology and behaviour and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I grew up living in my father’s veterinary practice and have owned a kennel and have worked with dogs every day for the last 4 years, but I was amazed at just how much Linn taught me in what felt like such a short period of time (30 days can seem to pass extremely quickly). Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the program for me, was how much I learned about myself. This program exceeded my expectations in so many ways. You are constantly learning every day of the program. Whether it be about how dogs think, how we can communicate with them through our body language and energy, how our own personal issues and perceptions affect our relationships with dogs, seeing how really being ‘in the moment’ influences dogs’ behaviour or so many other things too numerous to list. I began the program wanting to learn as much as I could in order to help dogs with behavioural issues. However, I realised very early on in the program, just how much I could improve my relationship with my own dogs (who I considered to have no issues) and improve their lives. Since I have returned home, I have been able to put into practice what I learned and seeing the change in my own pack has been wonderful to watch. They are psychologically challenged every day and given the chance to use their natural problem solving abilities and exercise their minds. Combining this with daily play events and proper structured walks is leaving them all visibly calmer and fulfilled every evening. I have also been able to start addressing my weaknesses and personal issues. Not only has this helped me become a stronger authority figure for my pack, but it has also shown me how calm assertive energy and body language influences my relationships with other people. I have offered my consultation services to private clients and to people adopting rescue dogs from the RSPCA. It’s an amazing feeling when you leave a consultation knowing that you have been able to help an owner and dog reach a better understanding or start to overcome a behavioural issue. But, it would not have been possible for me without Linn’s help and continued guidance.
